Case

A non-native professor* at a major Dutch university has to explain his department’s funding application to an institutional body. In fact, this presentation can be decisive in whether a particular study is funded. In a simulation, we asked him how he would do that. He provided a fully detailed but lengthy overview of the scientific value and methodology that would be applied. We then asked him to provide the same quality of information in a one-minute pitch. Talking faster is not an option. Rather, carefully chosen words and more direct contact with the listener proved highly effective.
